Keith Siddle
Keith’s paintings are a snapshot of nature, where motion becomes still. Detailed studies combined with dynamic compositions and vibrant colours. Often, but not always, fish.
Having painted and been fascinated by wildlife since childhood, when Keith first became a professional artist he initially decided to concentrate on one subject and chose for their power, grace and colour variations the oriental and beautifully ornamental fish, Nishikigoi (Koi).
An admirer of the work of the Japanese artist, Hokusai, Keith Siddle focuses his own work on the power and grace of each Koi as complemented by the intensity of their collective colors and shapes and other effects found in a Koi pond. To create a three dimensional effect, Keith Siddle uses a heavy duty rag paper, layers the acrylic colors and hand embosses each scale – no doubt a tedious process which, nevertheless, produces a stunning effect. To create the abstract backgrounds, he uses the acrylic medium as a watercolor.
Interested in the depiction of color and movement on canvas, Keith Siddle started out in 1984 at Maidstone Art College in England after which he joined the Retigraphic Society (now Pratt Contemporary Art) as an apprentice Fine Art Screen Printer.
In 1988, Keith Siddle qualified as a Master Printer and, shortly thereafter, graduated to Studio Manager. He has worked with internationally renowned artists, such as Roni Wood of Rolling Stones fame. In 1992, Keith left Pratt to establish his own name, specializing in Koi Art. Since then, he has had a wealth of commissions, including the March 1995 issue of Koi CARP Magazine and the December 1995 cover of the British Koi Keeper's Society Magazine. He also designed and produced the art work for the 1997 Tetra/Second Nature Calendar.
Keith has embraced the same work ethos that the most eminent Japanese Koi breeders use in nurturing their Champions: Dedication, patience, detail, enthusiasm and passion.
These skills have enabled him to expand and experiment with his subject matter, including Orchids to continue the Oriental theme of Koi, Tropical Marine fish and other Sealife inspired by his scuba diving experiences and Food Art, inspired by…..eating.
